PlayStation fans rejoice as Astro Bot takes home another Game of the Year award at last night’s BAFTAs, beating out Helldivers 2 and Balatro

Great news for fans of PlayStation and whimsical, colourful gameplay. Astro Bot won a BAFTA award last night, and not just any award. It took home the Game of the Year award, beating out other fantastic games like Helldivers 2 and Balatro.

Not only that, it took home multiple awards alongside the big one, including Audio Achievement, Animation, Family, and Game Design. This follows a Game of the Year win at The Game Awards last year, in which Astro Bot again beat out many big hitters in a frankly stacked 2024.

While representatives from the team picked up the award together, it was Nicolas Doucet who would give a short speech upon picking the illustrious award, paying homage to the team back in Japan. “Thank you so much to all of them, back in Japan. They crafted this game with so much love, so much care, every single day bit-by-bit. With no thought to winning things, we were just doing the best we could to make people’s lives brighter.”

He would go on to thank specific members of the team and beyond, including the game’s composer, everyone a PlayStation, and all the partners whose games appeared in Astro Bot. He’d also thank the BAFTA academy, as well as the families of the developers, and the video game developers who came before him.
