Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sells 3.3 million in 33 days – and this is not a joke, it’s your feelgood news of the day

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 developer Sandfall Interactive has announced that the turn-based RPG never stopped selling well. The game, which came out just over one month ago, has now sold over 3.3 million copies worldwide.

That figure was achieved 33 days after launch, which is just the nice bit symmetry you love to see for a game like this.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s success began at launch, when the game quickly shot up the Steam charts, selling a million copies in its first three days, a figure that surprised even its own creators.

That 1 million was made all the more impressive by the fact that Expedition 33 launched into Game Pass, meaning that you didn’t have to buy a copy to play it. Existing Game Pass members, or any of the millions who typically subscribe for one month whenever a hot new release comes out, do not factor into these sales figures.

Expedition 33 also launched right up against the highly-anticipated – and long-rumoured – release of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and not even that appears to have impacted the sales potential of the new game.

Sandfall later announced that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 sales had passed 2 million copies. Which brings us to today’s news of 3.3 million. The fact that it was achieved in 33 days is really just icing on the cake.

Thirty-three days ago, we released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Since then, we’ve sold 3.3 million copies.

Seriously. As of today.
We couldn’t make that up.

Another entry on the long list of surreal moments that your support has made real.

Thank you ALL.

Even outside of game circles, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been recognised by people such as French President Emmanuel Macron, who praised the French game’s “audacity and creativity.” Shortly after launch, the game’s excellent soundtrack landed the number one spot on Billboard’s Classical Album Charts, too.

Sandfall continues to work on the game, recently hinting at a Switch 2 version, and the potential for some sort of DLC.
