Helldivers 2 players have just been given a chance to “finally stop the Meridian Wormhole” from exploding more planets, but it means going back into the spooky bug fog

Helldivers 2 players might not have gotten the big update some of them were hoping for this week, but their latest mission at least looks like it’s coming with some pretty lofty Galactic War stakes. If you’re sick of the purple Meridian death ball destroying planets, here’s a chance to stop it.

After all, it’s eaten three worlds so far – Moradesh, Angel’s Venture, and most recently Ivis – leaving players either in a state of mourning, or in a case of the latter not really giving too much of a s**t because this whole death ball storyline is starting to wear on some hardcore divers. So, it’s high time it was halted in its tracks towards Super Earth.

Enter this latest major order, which follows a victory on Wezen that allowed thew divers to build an Exosuit Support Bay on their Democracy Space Station that’s handily reduced exosuit stratagem cooldowns for everyone by 35%.

“Center of Science astrophysicists on Fenrir III have nearly made enough progress to initiate third and final phase of the plan to stop the Meridian Singularity,” it reads, “But further progress into the highly theoretical realm of Dark Energy manipulation will require demand extremely high quantities of E-710 with which to experiment.

“The Gloom proved a deadly but rewarding E-710 source in our first scientific expedition. High Command has authorized a second limited foray, in order to progress our technology enough to finally stop the Meridian Wormhole. Excess E-710, if available, may be made available to mercantile interests in support of the common prosperity.”

In order to liberate the planet Nivel 43, grab this E-710 and stop the death ball, however, the divers will have to contend with the same “Gloom-specific terminid strains” that they did last time they went into the fog. Bring it on, big and bad bugs.

The good news is that folks seem pretty happy to be headed back into the fog. “THERES ANOTHER GLOOM EXPEDITION” one post on the game’s subreddit has declared, and here’s a whole thread of folks being happy about getting the chance to pancake and smash up some more terminids. Odds are they’re just a bit sick of al;l the automaton and illuminate-battling they’ve been doing recently, but still, enthusiasm’s nice.
