New Dune Awakening hype video digs into desert exploration, showing off the ever-changing Deep Desert for the first time

A new official Dune Awakening video has been released by Funcom, this time showcasing a bunch of the desert, as well as player exploration through the sands. Basically, it’s a fancy way of showcasing the player progression as far as sightseeing, traversal, and resource gathering goes.

This includes some features that haven’t been seen by those press and influencers who previewed the game earlier this year, including us! We can see resource probes that can mark points of interest on the map around you, and a scanning module you can fix onto your pick for proximity resource marks. So yeah, fancy stuff.

Perhaps the coolest thing we see, though, is the Deep Desert, something we only know about from developer interviews and sneak peaks, but have never seen. This part of the map resets weekly due to massive storms and is where some of the best resources will be hidden. The video showcases how an explorer could benefit from the feature, marking cool new places in the Deep Desert and selling that info on.

Dune Awakening will be launching on May 20 this year, but it’s clear that the game is firmly in its build-up to release, as evidenced by videos such as these which aim to drum up interest. For now, you can download a benchmark tool and character creator to get your sandy fella ready for the game’s full release.
