One of the most satisfying rogue-lite shooters you’re probably not playing just received its biggest update yet

Witchfire, the stellar shooter from The Astronauts, with rogue-lite and extraction elements, has received its biggest update yet. The Witch Mountain adds the eponymous region to the map, which had until this point been unreachable.

This new area brings a new, maze-like style of level design to the game, which continues to experiment with level layouts with every update. But there’s more than just the new location.

Witch Mountain is the largest area in the game, and it’s part of the largest update. It also finally brings a revolver (Duelist) to the game. Witchfire’s aesthetics mix fantasy with traditional, early firearms, so it never made sense that a straight up revolver wasn’t part of your arsenal

As with every Witchfire update, this one also reworks some of the existing mechanics. This time, it’s Fallen Preyers’ turn. This 2.0 iteration of the mechanic is intended to better integrate it into the gameplay loop. The developer said it expects players to make a lot more use of it in combat, especially when they struggle.

There’s also a new in-run challenge system that takes the form of Shadow Orbs, which offer rewards for smaller, optional challenges. The patch, of course, also comes with a host of rebalance tweaks for much of the gear and Arcana in Witchfire.

Plenty of bug – and map – fixes are part of this one, too. The Astronauts prepared a detailed blog post that you should read if you want to learn about all the changes. And, if you’re curious about Witchfire, the game is currently on sale at 10% off on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
