UPDATE: Just like magic: Randy Pitchford accidentally reveals new Borderlands 4 release date, then immediately deletes because googling time zones is hard

UPDATE (29/04/25, 4:30 PM GMT): PlayStation has now confirmed that the Borderlands 4 gameplay deep dive State of Play is set for tomorrow, April 30, writing: “Get ready for over 20 minutes of looter shooter action with Gearbox developer insights starting at 2pm PT/10pm BST/11pm CEST“. You’ll be able to watch via PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

Original story follows:

Borderlands 4 is set to arrive a bit earlier than expected – its release date has been moved up from September 23 to September 12, 2025. We know this because Randy Pitchford announced as much in a video posted to Twitter – one he’s since had to delete because he seemingly forgot that time zones were a thing.

Yep, a CEO prematurely revealing a release date change for his own big video game a via hand-filmed video, no doubt causing some not insignificant headaches behind-the-scenes. Who else but Randy, eh?

Wario 64 managed to grab the video before Pitchford pulled it down and replaced it with a tweet reading “Oops – time zones… Reposting momentarily :)”

In it, the exec – just chillin’ in a room at Gearbox – revealed the fresh September 12 date, and suggested that it’s been brough forward because: “everything’s going kinda the best-case scenario. The game is awesome. The team is cooking.”

(Randy Pitchford jumpscare) Borderlands 4 is moving its release date up to September 12th (though he deleted this video/post because it went up too early apparently)

He added that the special Borderlands 4 PlayStation State of Play teased earlier this year is set to take place “imminently”, with news of that looking a lot like it was supposed to come at the same time as Randy video, had he not goofed up with time zones.

Borderlands 4 was first announced at last year’s Gamescom ONL, causing everyone to immediately be reminded of how bad the Borderlands movie was.

With it now being moved forwards, one can’t help but wonder if that might help us get a slightly better grasp of when in its fal release window GTA 6 – the real big fish in the second half of 2025 – will drop.
